v29 “With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.”
Motivation – it is the thing we try to muster up. it is the reason we drink coffee in the morning and plan our day. We all want to be successful and achieve our goals. But beyond this is a desire to be more, to move mountains and achieve far from our ability.
This is what David felt when he wrote this passage. Those things that were impossible become possible. David can now scale walls and defeat the enemy because he is not just with any god, but with the true God. During David’s time, most people carried around with them their god. An idol made out of wood. For David, God was not something you carried around but was someone who could carry David around and lead him into victory. We should take this to heart for we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
Notice that David says that God will help him. God will not do it all but become an aid in the advance. The phrase, “with my God” means that God is with us, not against us and not before us, but, standing right beside us. It is God’s yoke. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30:
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Jesus says that as we are working with Jesus, we learn from him. But first, we must accept the yoke and the burden. Only in this acceptance will we find peace and also find victory even as the storm rages around us. In this you and I can be motivated o remain a Christian.
